Character, description

Most often, this wood is sold as pear tree. Whitebeam has been used for a very long time in cabinet making. It can be found in the XVIIth century in flower marquetry. This dense, very homogenous wood is great for fine cutting, shading and even dyeing. This led to its being used for Campeche black dyeing, imitating ebony. It was very fashionable in the nineties as a « minimalistic » decorative wood.
